Choreographers Notes: The songs used for this performance were recorded for the 1950 MGM film adaptation of Annie Get Your Gun which was to star Judy Garland and Howard Keel.  Judy Garland recorded most of the score but was unable to complete the filming and was replaced by Betty Hutton in the final version.  Most of Ms. Garland’s recordings remained buried in studio vaults for decades before being released.  It is to these selections that I have set Annie Redux.

GroundWorks Dancetheater

Gworks.Proximal_x400.jpg (16784 bytes)David Shimotakahara founded GroundWorks DanceTheater in January,1998. The organization is dedicated to the development and presentation of new choreography that encourages collaboration with other art disciplines and cultural organizations. Mr. Shimotakahara is committed to producing new work, performing to live music, and collaborating with composers of exciting new music. GroundWorks’ repertory includes works by selected guest choreographers and interdisciplinary artists.

Since its inaugural year, GroundWorks Dancetheater under Mr. Shimotakahara’s direction has garnered glowing praise, consistently acclaimed by critics and audiences alike for its originality, excellence and ability to communicate. The organization was a finalist in Northern Ohio LIVE Magazine 1997-1998 Awards of Achievement, singled out as "easily the most exciting development on the region’s dance horizon." In January, 2002, Dance Magazine named Mr. Shimotakahara "One of the year’s 25 to watch" in the dance world. In 2008, GroundWorks begins its tenth anniversary season with much to celebrate, having earned solid support and a growing audience base as more and more people discover what Donald Rosenberg in the Plain Dealer has described as the "smoldering brilliance" of one of Cleveland’s cultural gems.
